With the previously documented example:

  $ perf config --user report sort-order=srcline
  The config variable does not contain a section name: report
  $

With the fixed example line:

  $ perf config --user report.sort-order=srcline
  $ perf config --user report.sort-order
  report.sort-order=srcline
  $
